Togolese and Slovacko striker Francis Kone turned hero after saving an opponent’s life during a league game in the Czech Republic at the weekend.

Bohemians goalkeeper Martin Berkovec was knocked unconscious after colliding with teammate Daniel Krch in a horror collision.

The keeper had come to the edge of his box to collect a long through pass but defender Daniel Krch crashed into him, leaving the shot-stopper unconscious on his back and swallowing his own tongue, goal.com reports.

Kone showed lightning-fast reactions to recognise the trouble his opponent was in and put his fingers in the prone Berkovec’s mouth to retrieve the goalkeeper’s tongue.

“It wasn’t the first time I have done that. It’s something like the fourth time. Twice in Africa, once in Thailand,” Kone told Czech media after the match.

“I immediately checked to see if he had swallowed his tongue.”

Berkovec and Krch were both taken to hospital, but some 50 minutes into the match, the stadium announcer was able to declare they were both well, prompting a round of applause from the crowd, ESPN FC reports.

Berkovec expressed his gratitude to the Togo international forward via his Facebook account: “I would like to thank Francis Kone for rescue at today’s game… I’m glad for the help and thanks again!!!”

Reports suggest the 28-year-old will make a full recovery.
